REforestation

REforestation, UpCycled - 2D Art
REforestation
Tapping in to those childhood values, I have created this piece, titled “Reforestation” using repurposed corrugated cardboard which has been carefully deconstructed to expose layers of texture and depth. The remaining materials have been stained with acrylic paints. The flora at the bottom of the piece are flowers that I have dried and attached by interweaving them with the fibers of the cardboard. The stones at the bottom are leftover pieces of a smashed igneous rock, which contains fragments of quartz crystal. The piece depicts a Florida Cypress in honor of the protected tree.
The creation of cardboard boxes in the United States alone causes the destruction of an estimated 493 million trees annually. With 85% of all corrugated cardboard being recycled, that still leaves approximately 29 million tons of cardboard deposited in landfills throughout America every year.
