Journey is an upcycled mannequin representing the journey of life. I used about 20 - 25 old maps from all over the world, several travel guides, and an atlas dated 1957. I cut out small circles and decoupaged onto the mannequin. Out of old magazines I cut out images to visually represent a journey and glued them over white paper to make little photographs that I then added on top of the road map layer. She is topped off with a globe from that was made pre- Vietnam war. I love that all the bits of paper on this piece have been on journeys of their own, the journeys of each person they came from represented in this piece. I think of all the people who must have spun the globe, imagining places they want to go, so representative of all the possibilities the world has to offer. I imagine people opening up the roadmaps, planning a new adventure, mapping out the route.
