Relationships and causality were the underlying thoughts behind this project. As I worked many examples went through my mind, like how our actions impact our surroundings and influence other people. By upcycling materials into my artworks, I hope to inspire others to re-purpose items they might otherwise discard, suggesting a way to help reduce the amount of waste. I used the lid of a cardboard shipping container to act as a “canvas” and “frame” for my artwork. For the darker rings, I removed one layer of paper from cardboard pieces to reveal the rippled inner texture. For the lighter rings, I painted and cut up water bottles. Both the cardboard and the water bottles are layered, producing a woven effect.
